PLANS to open a children's home in a cul-de-sac in Atherton have been dropped following protests from local people.
Residents in Greenhall Close were up in arms when they heard that an application had been submitted to Wigan Council to turn a semi-detached bungalow into a children's home for three or four children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
They formed an action committee but the application has been withdrawn before it goes before planners.
The woman applicant, who did not wish to be named, said: "It is being withdrawn because of all the upset."
But she said an application for the children's home may be made in another part of Atherton.
Gary Hilton, spokesman for the residents, said they had opposed the plans because they felt the bungalow was unsuitable for a children's home and it would bring extra traffic.
