MANY Bolton Wanderers fans predicted the end of Ivan Campo's replica wig after the Premiership star unveiled his new trimmed hairdo at the weekend.

But despite the star taking the scissors to his big hair over the summer, there could be life in Ivan's old barnet yet.

Even though the midfielder sported a shorter and sleeker haircut for Saturday's Premiership opener, wig sales in the club shop are still going from strength to strength.

The trend has persuaded retail staff at the Reebok to place more orders for another 50 wigs to keep it a fixture on the terraces.

Barry Calbert, head of retail at the Reebok, said: "Obviously, Ivan's roots go deep into Bolton Wanderers.

"Loads of wigs were sold in the run up to the Coca Cola Cup final last season.

"He's such a charismatic figure, theatrical, with a good sense of fun. The fans love him charging through the middle, giving 110 per cent and complaining to referees."

Since January, 600 Campo wigs have flown off the shelves on to the heads of Wanderers fans.

But the fiery footballer unleashed a new trimmed hairstyle before the Reebok faithful at the weekend when Bolton opened their Premiership campaign in spectacular fashion with a 4-1 drubbing of Charlton Athletic.

Also a hit with the fans are the Campo T-shirts which are selling faster than even those of the Reebok's number one hero, Jay Jay Okacha.

And Wanderers fans should get ready for a special replica shirt hailing the collective talents of former Madrid stars - Hierro, Campo and Julio Cesar.

Barry said: "I'm working on something based on Three Is The Magic Number. Or perhaps a slogan like Even Better Than The Real Thing."
