A MOTOR sports fanatic is looking to bring one of the fastest growing pastimes in the country - mini stock car racing - to Bolton.
Dave Boardman wants to develop a racing club in the town, and is looking for a suitable venue for the sport.
Mini stock cars are radio controlled, powered by either petrol or nitro fuel and can be run on tarmac or gravel surfaces.
The sport has proven popular with teenagers and adults because it is relatively inexpensive.
But Mr Boardman, of School Street, Tyldesley, said the nearest place to race mini stock cars is miles away in Nottingham.
He believes that if they could find the right site to race their mini stock cars then the sport would take off in the town.
Mr Boardman said: "There has been a big revival in mini stock car racing in the local area.
"This type of racing is growing in popularity and is a good family spectator attraction in itself.
"People of all abilities can take part. It is one of the cheapest motor sports around, which is another appeal. But we desperately need a suitable venue to race our mini stock cars. We would like somewhere which is quite secluded but has good vehicular access."
Mr Boardman said the initial start up costs to buy a mini stock car was between £200-300, but the only cost following that would be for fuel.
He wants to run the proposed club on a non-profit making basis, and has appealed for potential members to contact him.
