A GANG of youths who went on the rampage in Harwood, assaulting two motorists and smashing up several cars, are being hunted by the police.

A fight broke out among a group of up to 20 teenagers in Hough Fold Way last month and spilled into the road.

Motorists who were driving past were forced to stop and accidentally became embroiled in the massive brawl.

The youths kicked several car doors and a concrete block was thrown through the windscreen of one vehicle.

Two men were also assaulted during the chaotic scenes at around 10.30pm on July 23.

As police made a fresh appeal for information about the incident, one victim said he felt "lucky to be alive" after a concrete block thrown through his windscreen narrowly missed him.

Robert Bray, from Bolton, was driving home after a night out with his wife when he saw a number of cars parked in the middle of the road and was forced to pull over.

He saw a group of up to 10 youths walk towards the vehicles who started kicking the car doors.

Before he could drive away, a large concrete slab came crashing through his windscreen.

Mr Bray got of his car but was hit across the back by a slab and knocked to the ground.

He claimed the gang would have continued to attack him if his distraught wife had not intervened to help protect him.

Mr Bray said a taxi driver was also attacked by the same gang.

He said: "I cannot believe that a group of teenagers could have done something like this. If my wife had not stepped in and stopped them throwing the concrete slab on my head, then I'm sure I would have been seriously hurt.

"It was absolutely terrifying. These lads threw a concrete slab at my back and knocked me to the floor.

"They then picked up the concrete block and aimed it at my head. My wife then jumped in to stop them throwing it at my head and managed to ring 999.

"We could see some of the other youths kicking the door of a taxi. The taxi driver had blood all over his face."

The youths had fled by the time the police had arrived at the scene.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We received a number of calls in quick succession on the night involved to say a fight had broke out between 20 and 30 youths.

"As the fight spread into the carriageway, a number of cars were damaged and two men were assaulted.

"Inquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone with information about the identity of the youths to come forward."
