AN 84-YEAR-OLD great-grandmother is proof that you are never too old to try new things - as she is about to go on her first trip in an aeroplane.
Adventurous Florrie Borsay is going on holiday to the Neapolitan Riviera and she intends to fly for the first time to get there.
Mrs Borsay has never been on a plane before as her late husband James disliked flying. But she says she is not in the least bit nervous about flying and is looking forward to sunbathing by the hotel pool and going on as many sightseeing trips as she can manage.
She said: "I was supposed to be going on the holiday with my daughter but she is moving house.
"I thought to myself 'I am not going without a holiday as I haven't been anywhere since before my husband died two years ago, so I am going on my own.'
"My husband would never fly - he even insisted on coming back from the War in a boat. I am hoping I will enjoy the flight."
The retired civil servant of Bolton, is already planning her itinerary for the eight day holiday, intending to take trips to Pompeii, Rome and Capri, which she booked through the Bolton Evening News Reader Travel service.
She said if she feels brave enough she will go swimming in the hotel pool.
Mrs Borsay said: "One of my friends, who is the same age as me, won't go anywhere. She says she is worried about being ill or dying. But I say you have got to die sometime and you shouldn't let it weigh you down."
Fun-loving Mrs Borsay is living proof that you are as old as you feel. She regularly went horse riding until the age of 75, and only stopped driving 18 months ago.
She regularly babysits for her two and a half-year-old great granddaughter Aaliyah and likes walking in the countryside and going on day trips.
The girls at Reader Travel are always more than happy to help Bolton Evening News readers choose a holiday from the great range of trips available.
