INDIVIDUALS and unincorporated businesses are entering a high-risk period of a tax investigation, an expert has warned.

Alan McCann, director of DTE Taxation Services, part of the DTE Group of business advisors, said: "Whereas for companies an inquiry could come at any time, individuals and unincorporated businesses are most likely to receive notice of an investigation over the summer. The Inland Revenue opens up more than 300,000 inquiries every year, and a full inquiry can be extremely expensive and time consuming.
