SECOND World War veterans gathered in Bolton to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of the Battle of Normandy.
The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Prentice Howarth, joined members of the Normandy Veterans Association, other ex-servicemen and cadets, for the anniversary. A parade of around 80 veterans from across the borough, led by the King's Division Normandy Band, marched from the Town Hall across Victoria Square.
The procession passed along Deansgate and Churchgate before arriving at Bolton Parish Church, where a memorial service was held.
A commemorative plaque was then unveiled in the church grounds by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Wing Commander David Forbes.
Cllr Howarth laid a wreath in the churchyard, at the site of the plaque, which was dedicated to all those who fought and lost their lives.
