Ossett Town 0 Radcliffe Borough 2: NEW signing Gordon Armstrong suffered a broken arm as Radcliffe Borough got their Unibond Premier Division off to a winning start.
Armstrong, brought in from Accrington Stanley during the summer, suffered the injury towards the end of the first half of Saturday's match.
The injury rocked Borough, who had to dig deep to compete with robust opponents on a bobbly pitch, but proved that they have the resolve as well as the skill necessary to mount a promotion challenge this season.
They took the lead after 35 minutes, when Simon Carden followed up to head home after goalkeeper Clark could only parry Lee Duffy's shot.
Armstrong was then injured, before Ossett were awarded a penalty in the last minute of the first half. Danny Hurst, who had recovered from a groin injury in time to play, punched away David Briggs' spot kick.
Borough were forced to defend towards the end, but sealed a deserved victory when Phil Denney showed good control to poke the ball home in the final minute.
