Woking 1 Leigh RMI 0: THREE games gone and Leigh RMI are still looking for their first win.
A return of just one point following a second successive away defeat leaves the Railwaymen at the wrong end of the table and manager Phil Starbuck frustrated his side failed to find the target.
"I can't believe we came away without a win," he said. "We had a slow start but came good after that and had three good chances.
"We should have done better. We hit the post, but when they hit the post it went in. Woking are a full-time team and we matched them. We were solid at the back but can't get it into the back of the net."
An entertaining first half saw both sides create plenty of chances and Adriano Basso superbly tipped over an effort from the impressive Chris Lane.
Justin Richard's goal in the 54th minute proved the difference and both he and Basso, who made three excellent saves, had a big say in the Cards victory.
Richards latched on to Ian Selley's defence-splitting long ball from his own half and the striker took the ball in his stride, drew Ian Martin, and slid the ball across the goal left-footed and in off the far post. Claims for a penalty, after Leigh skipper Barry Miller had appeared to handle were waved away by referee Fred Graham and the official then sent off Liam Cockerill for violent conduct and Leigh piled on the pressure, but Basso denied Karl Rose and Carl Adams in time added on.
Leigh are counting the cost with new signing Greg Rioch and Gareth Holmes sustaining knee ligament injuries.
