WHO are these planners who wish to desecrate the Market Hall? I am from the "If it ain't broke, why fix it" brigade.

I therefore agree with Neil Duffield's letter "Market Place will kill town's character". I remember the Market Hall in the 1960s, when the stalls were in a straight line, not at 45-degree angles.

The photo of Hods Herbalist taken before the war reminds me of the shop in the 1960s and 1970s. Their sarsaparilla is delicious, served by friendly staff.

What is the use of this "modernisation"? The Market Hall is unique and doesn't need any so-called improvements.

I can't, and don't want, to keep up with the Joneses, so why should the council keep up with the Traffords?
