"HOW much is that doggy in the window?" That is what most people ask when passing the Andrew Leach Sports shop in Lee Lane, Horwich.
Nine-year-old Charlie, a Bechon Frise, has watched the world go by from his prime spot in front of the window since he was a puppy and now has his own cushion for added comfort.
Kath Sellers, who has owned the sports and schoolwear business for 13 years, is the first to admit that Charlie draws in more visitors than they get customers.
She said: "We get people stopping all the time to look at him and many - particularly little girls - who just pop in to give him a stroke from time to time.
"People notice when he isn't there and come in to ask about him. He really has a lot of friends in Horwich."
And a very placid Charlie seems quite happy to lap up all the attention.
Kath said: "If I had a penny for every time someone asked me how much is that doggy in the window I'd be a millionaire!"
She explained that Charlie chose the position himself when he was an inquisitive pup and has become a permanent fixture since.
He fails to flinch when people tap on the window at him, or when the shop door bangs shut.
Rivington and Blackrod pupil Adele Taylor, aged 11, loves going to see Charlie.
She said: "It's quite cool having a dog in the window. He is very cute and I sometimes go over and stroke him when I come in."
