I WOULD like to say how disappointed I am after reading that the council is thinking of installing more road humps, this time on the main roads in Farnworth.
After seeing Labour lose control in the local elections, I thought the Bolton motorist might now get a little consideration, but it seems not.
The Labour councillors were just carrying out the anti-motorist policy of their national comrades and I had hoped for a less blinkered approach to safer roads with the Lib-Dems
I would now like to make a few points and suggestions that I hope the new Lib-Dem majority in the council would consider.
In other parts of the country road humps are being removed, not only for their ineffectiveness on speeding drivers, but also for the problems they cause, such as slowing down emergency vehicles, danger to bus passengers, damage to vehicles and noise.
I also think there is a tendency for motorists to avoid driving over humps wherever possible, which could result in local shops and stores losing business.
I would like to make a suggestion that, instead of road humps, put up clear speed limit signs along with orange coloured sections across the road, with the speed limit encircled on them in each direction, similar to the roads in many country villages.
These sections are not raised and can be laid cheaply on the existing road surface. They are also are a constant reminder to drivers of the speed limit.
