A FIVE-A-SIDE football team in Breightmet has scooped lottery cash to pay for coaching fees.

The side, based at the William Sutton Housing Association estate in Long Lane, has been awarded £5,000 as part of the grant scheme, Awards For All.

Members of the Breightmet Locals Initiatives for Troublefree Streets (BLITS) will use some of the money to buy kits, balls and cones.

The BLITS scheme was formed when William Sutton Housing Association appointed three community wardens on its estate in Breightmet two years ago

The initiative organises activities for young people between the ages of five and 14, focusing on sports, education, environmental issues and arts.

Community Warden, Susan Taylor, said: "The five-a-side team has been very successful and we were approached by lots of young people asking if we could help find the funds for coaching."

This is the second award the team has received within the last two years. Previous cash helped to set up the team and provide rugby coaching in local primary schools.
