IN reply to Alan Smith's letter, I feel he misses a point. Wolverhampton wouldn't ever accept being in a "Greater Birmingham", nor would Middlesbrough a "Greater Newcastle".
The term "Greater Manchester" implies to many, including outsiders, that we are a suburb of Manchester, which we are not.
I will never accept Greater Manchester as my county, and would prefer to be in a renamed "South Lancashire".
Being in Greater Manchester has never benefited Bolton, and by being the largest town in Lancashire, that would give the town much more national and international exposure than being just another satellite town in the metropolis known as Greater Manchester.
