TEN-YEAR-OLD Rebecca Tate took a step towards pop stardom when she won a talent contest.
The youngster from Harwood came first in the Junior Dream Idol competition held yesterday at the Albert Halls in Bolton and will now put her singing voice to the test against talented singers from across the north of England.
She beat off competition from five other Bolton starlets to win the chance to go through the next round of the national competition being held at Billingham, Teeside. The other contenders were: Hannah Wright, aged 14; Cherille Taylor, aged 12; Chloe Weston, aged 14; Hannah Bained, aged 11; and Hollie Farrell, aged 14.
All six sang Sound of the Underground by girl group Girls Aloud, cheered along by an audience of 200 young fans.
Rebecca will be among young hopefuls bidding to win a place in the grand final of the competition where a place in the Junior Dream Idol group, who will record their own CD, is up for grabs.
The youngsters were singing at a pop concert organised as part of Bolton Festival.
