RECENTLY, I was in Bolton, where I grew up. As usual on my visits back home, I went to Overdale Crematorium to see my parents' memorial stones.
In previous times, I have found Overdale to be a pleasant, well-kept place for quiet reflection. On this trip, however, I felt it looked neglected and in need of upkeep.
The paths were mossy and cracked, possibly dangerous for older people. No flowers were planted among the trees, making it look quite dreary. Also, the memorial chapel is in need of repair. I hope there are plans for improved maintenance so that people can again enjoy this lovely, peaceful spot.
