SAM Allardyce is refusing to ease up in his search for new talent, despite sitting pretty in the Premiership.
The Wanderers boss, who has already made nine new signings this summer, wants to add three more players to his squad before next Tuesday's transfer deadline -- and does not mind if he wipes out his entire season's transfer kitty.
He wants another goalkeeper and two more outfield players -- only then, he says, will he consider his squad strong enough to cover all eventualities.
Allardyce was delighted to see Wanderers bounce back from Saturday's demoralising defeat at Fulham to beat Southampton -- a second win in three games that puts them third in the table behind Arsenal and Chelsea.
But he is far from happy with the size of his squad and he hopes to do something about it now rather than wait until the January transfer window.
"We've probably got a slightly bigger strength in depth than last year," he said, "but, if we want to go that bit further, another one, hopefully three more players, will give us a squad that is big enough and capable enough.
"But I want them in now. I've had enough of waiting until January because January is always desperation time for our club.
"I don't want to be in a position of getting to January and saying to the chairman that I need three players to stay up. I want to be saying we only need one player to get us into the top half or to do better than last year.
"That's what I want and I want it all spending now. If it comes round to January and we've none left, then I'll create my own. If I've got none, then I've got none."
Henrik Pedersen and Jay-Jay Okocha each took their individual goal tallies to three in three games when they put Wanderers into a commanding 2-0 lead after just 27 minutes at St Mary's. But, having looked comfortable against a managerless Southampton side that looked like it was lacking in both spirit and direction, they almost paid for some late defensive lapses and had a scare after Peter Crouch pulled a goal back five minutes from time.
But Allardyce, who made two changes to the side beaten 2-0 at Fulham (Radhi Jaidi making his Premiership debut replacing Julio Cesar at centre-back and Stelios getting his first start of the season at the expense of Kevin Nolan), was still in upbeat mood as he looked forward to the next three games -- at home to Liverpool and Manchester United then away to Arsenal
"Give me three points out of the next three and I'll be absolutely delighted," he said. "Whether it's one win or three draws, I'm not really bothered."
