A 25-YEAR-OLD man ran back in to a smoke-filled house to rescue his cat, which had already bolted.
The man refused hospital treatment but was given oxygen by firefighters after a chip pan set alight in his home at Dunsop Drive, Johnson Fold.
Fire crews attended the scene at 11pm to find the kitchen on fire. Severe damage was caused to the kitchen and smoke damaged some of the house.
The chip pan set alight after the man switched the mains off but left the pan on the cooker. Another member of the household switched the mains back on and was unaware the chip pan was still on the cooker.
