PATIENTS visiting the Christie Hospital will pay higher car parking charges -- as costs are hiked up 10-fold.
Hundreds of patients from Bolton who visit the Manchester hospital will be forced to pay £10 a day for all-day parking instead of the current £1.
The Christie Hospitals NHS Trust has introduced the charges because they risk losing their two-star status and Government grants if they do not start to bring in extra cash.
They estimate they will be £1 million in debt by the end of this financial year in March.
The Royal Bolton Hospital currently charges £1 for all day parking but prices will go up when the new multi-storey car park is built. Under the new system at the Christie, people will be charged £1.50 for up to four hours, £2.50 for up to eight hours and £10 for eight hours or more.
Staff will also pay more with charges based on their current salaries.
