AMIR Khan's former headteacher has praised the teenager, who he described as "an exemplary student."
John Lawson, head teacher at Smithills School where Khan studied for five years, said: "We are absolutely delighted by Amir's progress.
"He was an exemplary student when he was here, with a very real talent.
"He has an extremely supportive family and is mature beyond his years. Whatever happens, we know he will always have their support."
Mr Lawson said Khan was "totally devoted" to boxing during his time at the school and was popular with pupils and teachers.
"All of Bolton will be on tenterhooks for the next fight."
