A NEW date should be set for a referendum into whether or not an elected north west assembly should be established.
That is the view of the chairman of the campaign group Yes for the North West, Felicity Goodey, following the publication of the Electoral Commission's report into the postal voting pilots at the European and local elections on June 10.
The report was given as the reason for postponing the referendums in the region and in Yorkshire and Humberside.
Ms Goodey said that now the report is out the Government should set a new date for the people of the north west to decide their future.
She said: "The government has to keep its word and give us the promised referendum on an elected regional assembly.
"The Electoral Commission report shows that we can move ahead and hold a ballot and that a postal ballot can be a robust part of the solution."
