A STUDENT who gained top A-level grades at a Bury college fears being deported to Pakistan with her family.
Rabia Aftab was hoping to find a medical school place before the academic year begins, which would enable her to stay in the UK on a student visa.
But the 18-year-old, who achieved five A grades and a grade B last week, has not been able to secure a university place and fears she could be forced to leave the country with her mother and sisters - putting their lives in danger.
Rabia came to Britain with her family four years ago after, death threats were made to the family. The family, who live in Bury, were refused asylum last year.
She said: "I try not to remember what it was like when I was in Pakistan - my mum and dad were so worried all the time. I feel safe and peaceful here and I've got lots of friends."
Despite Rabia's grades, she has been unable get on to a medical course.
The family's case is being examined by Bury North MP David Chaytor.
A spokesman for the Home Office said today it could comment on individual cases.
