A MEMORIAL stained glass window to honour a much loved headteacher, is to be installed.
The Alan Jenner Memorial Window is due to be dedicated at the Rivington and Blackrod High School chapel on October 10.
The window has been bought by the Old Rivingtonians' Association as part of the school's centenary year celebrations.
Mr Jenner served the school for almost 20 years from 1953 to 1972 and was respected and admired by all his pupils. He died in 2003 at the age of 91.
The window will comprise of two six feet high panels -- one featuring a bible open at Psalm 121 - Mr Jenner's favourite Psalm. The background landscape shows Rivington Pike. There are also books and a mortar board and sheet music to represent Mr Jenner's life. It also includes the colours of Rivington School.
The second panel depicts Mr Jenner's love of sport and includes cricket, rugby, golf and fishing items as well as the Rotary International badge and the colours of Jesus College, Oxford, where Mr Jenner studied.
Mr David Kaye, a member of the association said: "Mr Jenner was a greatly respected and much loved man." He was an old fashioned breed, a disciplinarian, a fun loving man who lived life to the full."
The panels were designed by local artist and former pupil Gerry Halpin and made by Classical Class of Bolton who will also install the window.
The Old Rivingtonians' Committee has so far raised 70 per cent of the money for the windows and members hope to reach the £5,000 target within the next few weeks.
The second highlight of the Centenary Year will be two days before the window dedication when the Association holds its Centenary Reunion Dinner at the Lion of Vienna Suite at the Reebok on Friday, October 8. A limited number of tickets are available from secretary Olive Fisher on 012004 697106 or 0.fisher@virgin.net
