A GARAGE in Farnworth is set to have CCTV cameras and floodlights installed after planning chiefs approved their proposals.

Euro Garages Ltd wanted to install security measures and wall mounted air conditioning unit at their Longcauseway service station, Longcauseway.

But residents believed that the impact of the floodlighting on homes next to the petrol station would be detrimental and the garage being open for 24 hours would cause disturbances.

Cllr Bill Collison said he had spoken to a number of residents who had raised their fears about the floodlighting.

The Kearsley councillor urged the planning committee to ensure that the lighting only operated between 6am and 6pm.

Westhoughton Councillor David Wilkinson said that an acoustic fence around the wall mounted air conditioning unit was also something that should be put in place by the garage owner.

The planning application approved with the conditions that soundproofing is installed around the wall-mounted air conditioner and floodlighting should only be lit between 6am and 6pm.
