REEBOK chiefs Phil Gartside and Sam Allardyce were working flat out on Bank Holiday Monday in a bid to tie up as many as four new signings before Tuesday night's transfer deadline.

Spurred on by an impressive start to the new season, which has brought nine points from the first four games, the Wanderers chairman and his manager are making one last push to strengthen their squad.

Allardyce will now not be travelling to the team's training camp in southern Spain until Wednesday at the earliest -- a clear indication that he expects to be doing transfer business on Tuesday possibly right up to the final minutes before the window closes at midnight.

He has already made nine new signings this summer but still hopes to strengthen most departments of his squad, including the goalkeeping position.

But he has denied reports suggesting Charlton left-back Chris Powell or Barcelona's Argentinian striker Javier Saviola are on their way to the Reebok.

All he has said is: "I'm looking for one or two. We've got a trip to Spain and the players not on international duty will be flying out tomorrow, but I'll only be joining them after the deadline."
