WANDERERS

4-3-3

JUSSI JAASKELAINEN...6

Had precious little to do over the entire 90 minutes, which speaks volumes for the defence.

NICKY HUNT...7

Came under a lot of pressure in the first period but had a much-improved second half.

RAHDI JAIDI...8

Followed up his impressive debut at Southampton with another solid, promising performance.

BRUNO N'GOTTY...8

Comfortably his best performance of the season; neither Baros nor Cisse got any joy at all.

RICARDO GARDNER...9

Kept Gerrard quite second half -- further proof that the flying winger is fast becoming an accomplished left-back.

JAY-JAY OKOCHA...7

Showed a few magic touches but this display was all about hard work; no wonder he tired towards the end.

IVAN CAMPO...8

Liverpool paid big euros for their Spanish contingent but Campo eclipsed them all with a non-stop display.

GARY SPEED...8

No wonder Allardyce snapped him up; it's tiring just thinking about the amount of work he gets through.

STELIOS...6

Busy and almost rewarded when he had Dudek stretching to save his first half header; a little subdued in the second half.

KEVIN DAVIES...7

Kept his cool to take his goal well -- and well-deserved it was ... a typically tireless, combative performance.

HENRIK PEDERSEN...7

Power and pace -- his two strongest suits -- set up the goal; worked hard for the full 95 minutes.

Subs: Les Ferdinand for Davies 72 mins, Kevin Nolan for Stelios 75 mins, Fernando Hierro for Okocha 85 mins. Not used: Julio Cesar, Kevin Poole.

MAN OF THE MATCH

RICARDO

GARDNER

AN all-action performance by the flying winger who is establishing himself as a left-back with every game. Liverpool tried to get Steven Gerrard working the right flank in the second half but the England man, who makes the Reds tick, got no change out of the Reebok Reggae Boy.

MAGIC MOMENT

THERE were a few fancy touches from Nigerian midfielder Okocha but, for effect, there was nothing to beat Pedersen's powerful run and cross that left Josemi floundering and set up Davies for his first goal of the season.

MOAN OF THE MATCH

RAFA Benitez was unhappy when Wanderers continued to attack while Spanish defender Josemi lay on the ground injured.

What did he expect?

It couldn't have been a serious problem, judging by the way the Spaniard leapt to his feet and continued playing as if nothing had happened.
