Westhoughton are just one game away from claiming the championship after a remarkable turnaround in fortunes on Sunday.

The leaders looked to be heading for a humiliating defeat when they crashed to 54 all out at Farnworth Social Circle.

But they produced a tremendous comeback, after Circle had looked home and dry at 27-1, to grab five wickets without conceding a run. The batting fell apart and Circle were all out for just 43, with Antonio Mayers claiming 5-14 and Paul Hart 4-24. Earlier, Dean Eckersley had grabbed 6-29 and Ryan Cunningham 4-23.

With Westhoughton crushing Eagley the previous day by 95 runs, they stretched their lead to 28 points over current champions Walkden.

The title holders were held to a draw by Astley Bridge on Saturday, but the next day had more success, cruising home by eight wickets at struggling Bradshaw.

Greenmount, the other title hopefuls, had mixed success. They followed a 113-run victory over Heaton with a home defeat by in-form Tonge, who have now taken 94 out of a possible 100 points and are guaranteed a top four finish and a Lancashire Knockout spot.

Tonge pro Adil Nisar followed up a century in the drawn game with Little Lever by taking 5-62 as Greenmount were restricted to 152-9, and then hit 38 to help his side to a six-wicket win. Nigel Partington was the top scorer with an unbeaten 66.

Horwich failed to grab a weekend double, as they beat Farnworth Social Circle by five wickets but could only draw with Farnworth, who had shocked Egerton the previous day with a one-wicket win.

Kearsley had to travel on both Saturday and Saturday, and resolute batting ensured two draws.

Rain hit the Sunday programme, with the games at Eagley and Heaton washed out.
