Lancashire v Surrey: LANCASHIRE'S cricketers can secure second place in the Totesport League Division One with a victory over Surrey at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

If the Red Rose side slip up in the day/night clash, Warwickshire could yet catch them by winning their last game. Both sides would then have eight wins, but Warwickshire's net run rate is superior.

As well as the runners-up spot, a victory would also be a boost to Lancashire ahead of the vital Championship game between the two teams, which starts of Thursday.

Coach Mike Watkinson said: "It would be good to do the double against them in this competition and it would a nice confidence builder ahead of the four-day game."

This match will be the last in Adam Hollioake's distinguished career. The Surrey all-rounder has already retired from first-class cricket and this will be his last outing in one-day colours.

In the previous league meeting, at Whitgift School, Mark Chilton and Iain

Sutcliffe put on a record 223 for the first wicket as Lancashire cruised to

an eight-wicket victory.

But Lancashire's totesport campaign has been fairly inconsistent, after

having led the table for a while in early season. Excellent victories have

been followed by poor defeats.

Surrey, last season's champions, are already relegated after losing at the

weekend so it remains to be seen what sort of side they field with the

important Championship game ahead.

But one thing is certain; this match will be the last in Adam Hollioake's

distinguished career. The Surrey all-rounder has already retired from

first-class cricket and this will be his last outing in one-day colours.
