SPECTACULAR growth for a Bolton manufacturer could lead to the company doubling its workforce.
Roger Blades, managing director of Computerised Machine Components (CMC), in Falcon Mill, enlisted the help of Business Link North Manchester when the company needed to expand.
Previously housed in the 20,000 sq ft Halliwell Mill in Bertha Street, CMC had seen a huge increase in turnover through its three divisions - aircraft component manufacture, kitchen and bedroom furniture design and shopfitting contracts.
The number of staff increased from seven to 43, and extra space was needed urgently.
Mr Blades said: "We're in the final stage of a move into our new headquarters at Falcon Mill with 140,000 square feet. By the end of the year, we anticipate employing 80 people to help produce our products."
Business Link North Manchester adviser David Arron said: "We started working with Computerised Machine Components at a critical stage in its development and as its trust in our advice grew, we helped by referring it to specialised partners who assisted in all areas of the business."
The company was referred to the Manufacturing Advisory Service for initial guidance, while further consultancy included help with a business plan and time management, introduction to a Manufacturers' Institute scheme for increased efficiency, and a range of financial advice that saved hours of time.
Mr Blades predicts that 12-month turnover to February, 2005, will see an increase of 400 per cent, and is laying down plans to create a manufacturing "centre of excellence" to keep the company competitive.
