PROPOSED installation of speed humps in the Farnworth area. I am amazed the highways officers and the council are still pursuing the crude method of traffic calming such as speed humps.
At an open meeting to the general public held in the Festival Hall on August 12, one of the topics held for open discussion was traffic calming.
Both the highways officers and council members at that meeting know full well that the myth put out that road humps are a popular measure of traffic calming was finally exposed as nothing more than a sham.
Every person who spoke at that meeting was not against traffic calming, providing adequate research had been carried out, but totally against speed humps.
If traffic calming must be used, there are other methods less costly that can be employed.
Other councils throughout the country are now in the process of removing speed humps from their roads. Bolton Council and highways officers take note.
