Wanderers have not given up on signing Khalilou Fadiga despite failing to agree a deal before the closure of the transfer window on Tuesday night.

The Senegal midfielder has been in talks with Whites boss Sam Allardyce about a move to the Reebok.

And Fadiga would be able to move to Wanderers outside the transfer window because he is currently a free agent.

Transfer window restrictions do not apply to players who do not have a club.

Wanderers confirmed on Wednesday morning that they are still keen to sign Fadiga, who was a key member of the Senegal side which reached the quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup before losing to Turkey.

The 29-year-old was released by Inter Milan at the end of last season because of a heart condition.

He needed surgery to correct an abnormal heartbeat in May but has since been given a clean bill of health.

Fadiga was at the San Siro for a season after joining from French club Auxerre, but was unable to play a single game for the Italian club.

He began his career with Paris St Germain, and also had spells in Belgium with Liege and Club Bruges.

Wanderers brought in goalkeeper Andy Oakes on a three-month loan deal from Derby County on Tuesday morning, but did not make any further signings before the transfer deadline.

Oakes has flown out to Spain to join Wanderers' training camp ahead of their friendly against Seville on Saturday night, when the 27-year-old goalkeeper is expected to make his debut.

He is also likely to figure in Wanderers' Carling Cup tie at Yeovil later this month, as he is not cup-tied.
