A FOOTBALL team starting the season with a new name are hoping that the change will help propel them to success.
Radcliffe Town -- formerly Radcliffe Amateurs -- have set their sights on the Redrow Lancashire Amateur League title after finishing fourth last season. The team, who had been known as Radcliffe Amateurs since 1935, decided on the name change in order to demonstrate their ambition to succeed.
Radcliffe -- who play at the town's King George V fields -- will be turning out in a new strip this season after the club agreed a sponsorship deal with Bolton accountancy firm Stafford & Co.
Dave Wilkinson, Radcliffe Town's manager, said: "We have our sights firmly set on winning the division this season.
"We've an influx of new, talented players and, having finished fourth in each of the two years since we were promoted to the Premier Division, we feel the top spot is well within our reach.
"By changing our name to Radcliffe Town, we are reflecting this ambition, without losing any of our history."
KITTED OUT: Radcliffe Town's players watch on as manager Dave Wilkinson shakes hands on a new sponsorship deal with Ken Stafford of accountancy firm Stafford and Co.
