THERE's plenty to see at Cheshire's Quarry Bank Mill the weekend after next.
On Saturday, Sept 10 and also the following day from 11am to 4.30 pm you
can visit the Devil's Den and meet Jack Binns - a textile mill tackler - as
he takes part in the Battle of Gettysburg.
The dark days of the American Civil War are upon us and the mill workers are suffering badly with the resulting "cotton famine".
Join the spinners and weavers as they sign up with the recruiting officer, crossing the Atlantic and fighting for Lincoln - while their Manchester cousins starve. The people of India take pity of the poverty stricken and send a million pounds to help!
Nikky Braithwaite, Visitor Services Manager at Quarry Bank, said: "The action takes place on the mill meadow and sees the opposing armies of the American Civil War camped out and ready to fight.
"Not only is this guaranteed to be an entertaining and lively weekend, but visitors will also discover the terrible impact the war had on the industrial North-west of England. Come along and take a step back in time. . ."
