BOLTON'S Moor Lane bus station had a peaceful and slightly fogbound look about it when this picture, above, was taken in December, 1930.
Readers were informed that the new bus station was now in use and that the photograph showed buses drawn up at a section of the platform.
Moor Lane looks a little busier these days - bus travel is still a popular way of getting around.
Meanwhile two new bus shelters - to replace the former wooden ones - were erected in front of Bolton Town Hall in October, 1953.
The shelters, pictured left, which served the Barrow Bridge and Church Road routes, were made of aluminium with glass panes.
"If necessary, this type of shelter can be taken down at short notice," the caption read.
The picture is a useful reminder of the days before Victoria Square was pedestrianised.
Magee's famous Commercial Hotel can be seen in the background.
This picture, bottom, appeared in the Bolton Journal in 1957.
The words "new bus" are written on the back, but I am afraid I cannot tell you much more.
I get all nostalgic when I see buses which had a conductor as well as a driver.
