ANGRY residents have sent a petition to a council asking for speed bumps to be removed.
Traffic calming measures in Astley Street and Princes Avenue, Tyldesley, have led to accidents and damage to vehicles, say the residents.
More than 1,000 people have signed the petition to Wigan Council and they have been supported by the ambulance service and the fire brigade because the roads are the main route from Astley to Tyldesley.
Atherton fire station manager Colin Waite says the speed bumps added at least 10 seconds to the time it took to reach an emergency call-out.
William Ward, of Kittiwake Close, Tyldesley, said: "You take your life in your hands every time you drive on those roads.
"The speed bumps are promoting bad driving, and they aren't doing their job. We need something to slow traffic."
The residents hope the speed bumps and traffic "pinch points" will be removed, as they were after a similar protest in Holden Road, Leigh.
Mr Ward said they should be replaced with a lower speed limit, speed cameras, roundabouts and even bends in the road.
