THE town will host a huge party on Saturday to honour Bolton boxing sensation Amir Khan.
The 17-year-old Heaton student will meet his legions of fans on the steps of Bolton Town Hall at 10.30am to celebrate his silver medal at the Olympic Games in Athens.
The Mayor of Bolton, Councillor Prentice Howarth will host the civic event and a celebratory dinner will be held in private at the town hall.
Cllr Howarth said: "This is our way of congratulating Amir and showing our appreciation. We have been following his success throughout the Games and everyone has been rooting for him.
"We are all really proud of what he has achieved. No doubt he will inspire many people, not only in Bolton, but everywhere."
Plans have also been proposed for Amir to parade in an open-top bus on Saturday before the civic reception -- although this yet to be confirmed.
If the plans are given the go ahead, Amir will travel on the bus from Bolton School, in Chorley New Road, into Bolton town centre.
The proposals for this parade were put forward by friends of Amir .
Amir arrived back home on Tuesday to Manchester Airport to a rapturous welcome where hundreds of fans clamoured to catch a glimpse of the silver medallist.
He was whisked home with his family in a Hummer Limousine back to his home on Tudor Avenue, Heaton, where a party was thrown by his family and friends.
