A CHORLEY police officer has received a commendation from the Chief Constable of Merseyside for his work during a murder investigation.

Constable Alan Robinson, part of the Tower Project anti-drugs team at Chorley Police Station, was commended for his commitment and professionalism in the search for a missing woman.

His colleague, PC Martin Foley, who is based at Leyland, was also commended. Through their actions the dismembered bodies of two women were found.

The officers remained at the scene to ensure the security of the area despite the distasteful nature of the site.

Another officer, Sergeant Astrid Robinson, who worked in Chorley between 1999-2003, was also commended for her leadership, personal qualities and professionalism when in charge of the search of an area where the dismembered bodies were found. Her prompt actions aided the investigation into their deaths.

The special ceremony took place at Knowsley Hall, Prescot, where officers and staff from Merseyside, Lancashire and Greater Manchester Police received their awards.
