A FAMILY battling to build a house on land next to their home in Horwich have received support from local councillors.

Reg and Marjorie Brayshaw, of Draycotts, Chorley Old Road, want to build a three-bedroom detached house on land at the side of their home for their 30-year-old son.

Their original application was refused by Bolton Council and an appeal against the decision failed because the land is in a Green Belt area and access on to a busy main road would have been dangerous.

Since then, several traffic-calming measures, including the narrowing of the road and improved signs, have been installed in Chorley Old Road and the Brayshaws decided to have one last attempt.

Mrs Brayshaw said: "The land is an eyesore as it is now and serves no purpose. Although it officially falls into a Green Belt area, it is in the middle of a row of existing houses."

Horwich councillors have voted to recommend approval. Bolton Council's planning committee are to decide on the application.
