VOLUNTEERS will be visiting the Royal Bolton Hospital today to check-up on hospital hygiene.
Members of the Patient and Public Involvement Forum across the North-west will drop in on their local hospitals this week to carry out a survey.
All volunteers will be armed with a "tool kit", two pages of questions to ask staff and patients about daily hygiene routines.
Questions such as how often staff wash their hands and the availability of sinks will be asked.
The aim of the survey is to clamp down on hospital acquired infections such as MRSA. The Royal Bolton Hospital had 38 cases of MRSA recorded last year, one of the lowest in the country.
The survey results will be sent to the Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health who will produce a summary for the public laster in the year.
Bolton's 14 volunteers, many of whom have been in the nursing profession, were visiting the 23 wards throughout the hospital during the day.
