A TROPHY has been presented to an angler in memory of a young man who died in a car crash two years ago.
The parents of keen angler Craig Dawson, Geoff and Jill, gave the prize to the winning member of Ramsay Angling Society at Breightmet Conservative Club.
Their 20-year-old son died in November 2002 when he was the passenger in a Porsche that careered off Blackburn Road in Astley Bridge.
Dave Murphy is the first recipient of the trophy that will be presented every year to the club's winning angler in Craig's memory.
Anglers competed for the prize on Horrobin Water, near Jumbles Resevoir, in July.
Craig, who was also a martial arts expert, had been a popular member of Ramsay Angling Society since childhood.
He was an early starter around the waters of Bolton after his dad taught him to fish when Craig was just three years old.
Jill Holmes, Craig's mother, said: "It's a nice memorial to him. He used to go down to fish every time the weather was decent. He was a friendly lad who didn't mind his time on his own.
"He was only 20 years old when he died and things for me will never be the same.
"I'm so proud that I had such a fantastic son. He was an absolute credit to me."
Bill Nissen, a club member, knew Craig well and went fishing with him from an early age.
He said: "Craig was so well-liked in the club and this trophy will make sure that we don't forget him."
