PUB regular Lisa Gould put a on a brave face as she dangled 100 feet over the edge of Old Trafford football ground - despite being terrified of heights.
Lisa was among nine people who abseiled from the dizzying heights of the ground's East Stand on Sunday.
The group, from the Red Lion, Blackrod, took the leap of faith to raise money for cystic fibrosis.
The illness cut short cut the life of Lisa's brother, Jason Mellor, nine years ago, when he was aged just 22. Red Lion landlord Nick Du Toit organised the event because his nine-year-old daughter, Elise, also suffers from cystic fibrosis.
Lisa, aged 31, was one of the first to make the descent.
"I'm scared to death of heights," she said. "Normally, I do a run each year to raise money but because I've hurt my knee, I decided to do this.
"I tried not to look down but when I thought I was near the bottom I turned round and there was still about 50 feet to go.
"It was a great experience and I'm glad we've managed to raise so much." Lisa raised more than £500 in sponsorship and the entire group hope to have made around £2,000 for the charity.
The money will go towards funding research into the illness which causes a gene defection to secrete an abnormally thick mucus into the lungs and can lead to repeated chest infections and poor weight gain.
Around 7,000 are born with the condition in the UK each year.
Landlord Nick, aged 49, and a former Wigan Rugby League player, said: "Everyone who took part loved it in the end and we're very grateful to everyone who helped support us."
