RESIDENTS have called for better parking facilities at a Bolton railway station to stop commuters leaving their cars on a busy road.

People living in Chapeltown Road, Bromley Cross, say parked cars fill the road during the working week, making it difficult for motorists to drive along it.

Residents believe the existing parking facilities at the station cannot cope and they have called on Bolton Council, which operates the 40-space car park, to provide more spaces.

Netta Hammond, who lives in Chapeltown Road, said: "We have cars parked on this road every morning.

"It can be really difficult for people who live on the street to get their cars out on to the road.

"Motorists sometimes struggle to get through Chapeltown Road because cars are parked on either side.

"I don't blame the people using the trains because they have nowhere else to park. The car park at the train station is too small and is always full.

"They should build a bigger car park to get cars off our road." Bromley Cross councillor Alan Wilkinson, said: "We know there is a problem for residents with train users parking on the road.

"There is a car park at the station but unfortunately it is too small to cope with demand.

"But there is nowhere else to build extra parking facilities on site because of a lack of land around the station."
