A COMPETITION to find the "Fastest Housewife in Bolton" was held in January, 1969, at the Co-operative store in Oxford Street, Bolton.
Housewives pedalled the equivalent of 220 yards on a roller cycle in an effort to win an automatic washing machine.
The competition was launched by Beryl Burton, the world cycling champion at the time.
The 20 housewives with the fastest times competed in the final.
This picture appeared in the Bolton Journal on January 17, 1969, and I searched subsequent issues of the Journal and the Bolton Evening News so that I could tell you who won.
Unfortunately, this information did not seem to be to hand.
