IT is becoming obvious that people in the Bolton area DO want to keep their independent traders.
The petition to keep the town's Market Hall open and trading in the wake of a huge planned development has already attracted 11,000 names.
These are people who care about the threat to our central market stalls and the historic hall, which is 150 years old next year.
At the same time, popular Astley Bridge butcher Malcolm Carr - whose shop was ripped apart by a gas explosion - is opening again for business after months of closure.
Bolton needs its small businesses as well as its major stores, to serve local communities and help keep the town's individual flavour.
The answer lies with all of us. Support them with your custom - and please sign the Market Hall petition if you share any of these views.
