A SCHOOL which has been subjected to repeated vandal attacks is to spend £17,000 on improving security measures.
Haslam Park Primary School in Deane will install security shutters on all windows after yobs caused thousands of pounds worth of damage this summer.
In June, the Wigan Road school had 28 windows and skylights smashed, causing £3,000 worth of damage.
Hooligans threw bricks and stones at the windows, sending razor sharp shards flying into the classrooms.
The wrecking spree was so bad the school had to close the junior classrooms and send pupils home until the mess was cleared up. The vandals responsible for the attack have still not been caught.
The work, which is being paid for by Bolton Council, is expected to done in the next couple of months.
Headteacher Alison Howarth said: "It's essential that this work is carried out.
"We have suffered a lot of vandal attacks during the last couple of years and we felt that we had no choice but to go ahead and improve security.
"We have been quite lucky that the school has not been vandalised during the summer holidays. Hopefully, these security shutters will avoid a repeat of June's attack."
Police are still appealing for information about the June vandalism. If anyone has any information, they should call the school on 01204 333393, or Crimestoppers anonymously on freephone 0800 555 111.
