A £20,000 CCTV system has been installed at Duxbury Park golf course in a bid to crack down on car crime and anti-social behaviour.

The move to make the area safer for players and their families was taken by Chorley Borough Council, in connection with the borough's Multi-Agency Problem Solving (MAPS) Team.

Councillor Cath Hoyle, Chorley's executive member for life and leisure, said: "I'm delighted we have been able to take action and the CCTV system will help alleviate golfers' fears of car crime and help them concentrate on enjoying a game on one of the best municipal courses in the country."

Councillor Mary Wilson, executive member for the environment and community safety, is also chair of the Community Safety Partnership and works closely with members of MAPS. She said:

"The council is working together with MAPS, which includes police officers, to target areas of concern.

"I'm sure this will make a real difference to the facility and encourage more people to enjoy it."

The installation costs of the system are to be spread over a three-year period with the system connected to Chorley Police Station, providing 24-hour surveillance and immediate response around the clock.

Wardens who have previously patrolled the car parks will now be available to patrol the golf course in a bid to improve speed of play and course etiquette.
