NEIGHBOURHOOD heroes who have taken a stance against anti-social behaviour are to be recognised in a new awards scheme.

Bolton South East MP Brian Iddon is encouraging people to nominate individuals and local groups who have shown commitment and bravery in tackling problems in their communities such as aggressive behaviour, vandalism, intimidation and graffiti.

Judges in the Home Office-run awards will pick 100 winners across the country who will receive £1,000 to support their work. One overall winner will pick up £5,000.

Dr Iddon said: "The brave people who are taking steps to tackle anti-social behaviour should be commended."

Nominations must be made by Tuesday, September 28, by calling 0800 085 2980 or visiting www.takingastand.
