A BOLTON man and his dog will take part in the grand final of the UK's largest national dog show this weekend.
Steven Royle, of Halliwell, is due to travel to Gonsal Farm animal centre in Shrewsbury for the RSPCA's Dog of the Year award.
The pets taking part in the show have all been rescued by the RSPCA after being badly treated or disowned.
Winky, aged two, got to the final after competing against other dogs in a heat at Moss Bank Park, Astley Bridge.
She was rescued by the RSPCA at just six weeks old after a cigarette was stubbed out in her eye causing her to have limited vision.
Mr Royle said: "When we first got her she was quite a frightened dog but we've persevered with her and she's come on a treat."
With 93 heats held nationwide, the dog show has proved to be popular with both dogs and their owners.
The dogs are chosen by their general appearance, personality and the relationship with their owner.
Finalists include 23 dogs from the north of England. The top three dogs will walk away with a variety of different prizes.
RSPCA director general, Jackie Ballard said: "It is a great opportunity for dogs who were once unwanted, and gives them a chance to show what fun and loving pets rescues can make."
