VOLUNTEERS are required to help children learn to read at schools across Bolton.

Charity Volunteer Reading Help recruits and trains people to provide children in Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, Salford and Wigan primary schools with extra help.

Currently, it is sending 105 volunteers into 75 local schools to each help three children on a one-to-one basis, but more volunteers are urgently needed.

Volunteer Reading Help works with children who are struggling with their reading, lack confidence or are under-achieving. The individual help given by volunteers aims to have a positive impact on their school life.

Volunteers can be any age, need no formal qualification, should love books, have the patience to listen to children and help them to develop an interest in reading, are able to go into a school for about three hours a week in term time and attend a short training course before they start.

Anyone interested should contact Gayle Percik, Volunteer Services Manager, on 01204 338053, email vrhbolton@vrhnorth.freeserve.co.uk or write to VRH, Castle Hill Centre, Castleton Street, Bolton BL2 2JW.

The next training course starts at the end of September.
