THE family of an artist who designed the famous Bolton Wanderers crest are desperately trying to locate his other work.
Frank Bowles, who was an illustrator and cartoonist for the Bolton Evening News, created the famous round blue crest for the Super Whites, featuring the letters BWFC in the shape of a football.
The crest is his most famous work and was designed more than 30 years ago when Mr Bowles worked for Bolton firm GW Advertising, in Mealhouse Lane.
And now his daughter, Maria George, who lives in Huddersfield, is appealing to anyone who may know the whereabouts of any of his other work with a view to possibly buying some of his art.
The Bolton-born artist completed numerous portraits, wall hangings, pen and ink sketches and drawings, many of which were commissioned pieces.
Mr Bowles, who lived in Manchester Road, Bolton, and then Meadowside Avenue, Tonge Fold, from 1964, also produced a weekly cartoon strip for the Bolton Evening News' sports paper, The Buff.
He also did many black and white caricatures of football players, some of which also featured in the Farnworth Journal more than 50 years ago. He later worked for Tillotson's Bolton Journal in the 1960s and '70s, before his death in 1977.
Mr Bowles, who always signed his work FJA Bowles, or Frank Bowles, produced a number of paintings on request for people in Bolton.
His work includes a painting of the Pineapple Pub, in Blackburn Road, Astley Bridge, and the New York skyline.
He died suddenly aged 50, before he had chance to produce artwork for his family -- something he intended to do when he retired. Mrs George said: "I always smile and think of him when I drive past the Reebok Stadium with my dad's emblem showing so proudly on the new building more than 30 years after he designed it.
"I always remember being very proud of his detailed drawings and caricatures, and would truly love to see them, or any of his works, again.
"No-one can understand what it would mean for me to be able to show my son something of what his grandfather did."
Anyone who may know of the whereabouts of any artwork by Mr Bowles should call Mrs George on 01484 514160.
